Frequently asked questions

What is a multimodal pain plan?

It means using several gentler methods together — like regular paracetamol, an anti-inflammatory, nerve blocks and non-drug measures — instead of relying on strong opioids alone. Combining approaches often gives better relief with fewer side effects.

Can I really avoid opioids after surgery?

Often you can keep them to a minimum, especially for minor and day-case surgery, by using a good multimodal base. For bigger operations some opioid may still be the safest option for a short time. Your team can tailor this — bring it up as a goal.

Will the team listen to my preferences?

Yes. Anaesthetists and surgeons plan pain relief for every patient and welcome your input. This tool just helps you arrive with clear questions. The final plan is always decided together with your team based on your health and the operation.

Is this medical advice or a prescription?

No. This is general educational guidance to help you prepare questions. It is not a prescription and does not replace your team's instructions or your medicine leaflet. Always confirm doses and suitability with your own clinicians.
