Surgery Waiting-Room Companion
Someone you love is in theatre. This gentle timer keeps you company while you wait, tracks how long it has been, and lets you tick off each stage as you hear about it. Send the page to whoever is waiting.
Time since you started waiting
0:00:00
Roughly how long were you told it might take? This is only a rough guide.
Stages (tick each one as you hear about it)
Each tick records the time. Untick if you tapped it by mistake.
This timer is kept on your own device so it survives a refresh. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Why is the operation taking longer than the time we were told?
This is very common and usually nothing to worry about. The booked slot is often just the cutting time. Real operations also include settling in, anaesthetic, careful positioning, dressings and waking up in recovery, which can easily add an hour or more. A longer wait does not mean something has gone wrong.
We have not heard anything for ages. Is that bad?
No news is normal. The theatre team is focused on the operation and usually only calls out if they need to reach you. Most families hear nothing until the surgeon comes to find them afterwards. Try to eat, drink and take a short walk while you wait.
Does this tracker send our information to the hospital or anyone else?
No. Everything runs privately in your own browser. The timer and any stage notes are kept only on this device so they survive a refresh. Nothing is sent anywhere, and nothing you enter is stored on a server.
When should we actually ask the staff for an update?
If you are worried, it is always okay to gently ask the ward or reception desk for an update, especially if the wait is far longer than expected. Trust your instincts. The staff would rather you asked than sat in distress.
